Colin Affleck takes us on a journey into the past, revealing the origins and the glory days of the Caledonia Springs Hotel and the community and industry that flourished there as a result. From its obscure beginnings more than 200 years ago, through the ups and downs of growth, disastrous fires, repeated rebuilding, and all amidst a changing world, this book explores and considers the decisions and events which propelled an almost anonymous spot on Canada’s map to national and international prominence, only to end in obscurity.
Much is revealed in this book, from the Caledonia Springs Hotel’s slow but steady rise to its golden days as a destination for society’s elite, to its sudden and unpredicted closure. The author used 150 images to illuminate the story, including geographical mapping and illustrations done by the author himself to depict the village of Caledonia Springs as it might have looked in days gone by.
