Gordon Fraser describes himself as a mix of French, Scottish, and British ancestors. His French history in Canada reaches back to about 1600 when a young man nicknamed Lapierre walked off a ship at Tadoussac, Quebec, never to return to France. The first Scots arrived after escaping the carnage at Culloden, and were joined later by victims of the Highland clearances. His British ancestor came as a sea captain, looking for a new life. Frasers fought Frasers at the battle for Quebec; and British relatives burned French relations out of the church at St. Eustache.
Though they all held very diverse stations and opinions, they shared one commonality: a deep love for this country which carried them through.
